How to track a portfolio

A short guide to quantities, unit prices and portfolio value in stock, fund, gold, crypto, bond, bill and Eurobond records.

Value724 product guide · 9 October 2026

1. Bring your records together

Start by recording the assets held in your different accounts in one view. Check each asset’s name and symbol, quantity, price currency and record date. If you hold the same asset in several accounts, avoid counting the same holding twice.

2. Distinguish quantity from unit price

For a simple holding, value equals quantity × unit price. If 10 units have a source price of TRY 100, the displayed value is TRY 1,000. This is an arithmetic example, not an investment or return recommendation. Units such as grams and ounces must not be mixed.

For bond, bill and Eurobond records, quantity is the nominal amount. Value equals nominal amount × clean price per 100 nominal / 100. Accrued coupon interest is not added in this version. See the bond, bill and Eurobond guide for details.

3. Check the price date and source

A tracking app’s price may lag because markets are closed, the source is delayed or a service is unavailable. Your displayed portfolio value may differ from the amount you could realise through a bank or broker. Spreads, fees and taxes can affect the result.

4. Compare totals in one currency

Viewing a total in TRY, USD or EUR converts holdings through exchange rates. This changes the view; it does not sell your assets or execute a currency trade. Our currency guide explains why the same portfolio can appear to change at different rates.

5. Review your records regularly

Review your records after purchases, sales, transfers or events that change quantities. Bank and brokerage statements remain your primary records. Value724 is a tracking tool and does not replace verification of source data and calculations.
